Spring is Here! 0

First and foremost, I sincerely apologize for the long gap in between posts! We’ve been busy, and I’ve been slacking, for sure. With that being said though, there are so many new things happening at Dali Decals! Some of the newest items we’ve been listing are just awesome.  The creativity and energy that flows out of the studios are contagious, and everyone’s picked up on the vibe.  Definitely good for the morale around here!

We hired a couple new people, too! Emily is officially our youngest employee, having just celebrated her 21st birthday last week! The girls in cut production surprised her with a table full of streamers and balloons, and of course, a bottle of cake flavored vodka. How fitting.

Emily celebrates her 21st birthday!

Our other new addition is George!! He will be assisting the boys over on the print side of Dali Studios, helping with customer service as well as outside sales. (Basically, he gets to drive around and talk about how awesome we are..)  What’s great is, George has already been doing this for the 2 years that we’ve known him, and we finally decided to just bite the bullet and bring him on board with us.  Clearly, George knows how to have a good time, too. (He’s the one on the left, not the pug.)

George doesn't mess around when it comes to wine!

With that being said, we’ve also got some big plans ahead for yet another expansion!  We’re really just waiting for the right time to move into our additional space, but we’re projecting it to be in the next few months or so.   Stay tuned for more updates on that.

Hope everyone has a safe and fun-filled St. Patricks Day!! Watch out for the green people!

Dali Decals Gives Thanks 2

We’ve got lots to be thankful for here at the Dali Studios, and sometimes we forget just how good we have it!  I spent some time today interviewing our team to find out what they’re thankful for..

Jeni, Steve, Jenn, Caryn, Ashton and Megan posing for a last minute production photo.

At the top of our list were some of the more anticipated responses, like friends and family!  Our pets came running in behind as a close second.  Our 4-legged (and 3-legged, if we’re talking about Bailey!) furry friends often provide some of the best companionship around.   Just about everyone remarked that they were thankful for their opportunities here with us, (Geez, so are we! :) Dave and I are so grateful that we’ve been able to build something like this and have such a great staff!) We also received quite a few unexpected responses, including things such as chocolate, air conditioning, tervis tumblers, coffee, a full head of hair, DVRs, indoor plumbing, ice cubes, cars that run properly, and burritos.

Our Creative Director, Mitch Kelly, says, “I am thankful for my job at Dali Decals. I don’t ever dread coming in to work and they pay me so that I can buy all the burritos I want.  Burritos are the other thing I am thankful for.  Sometimes Dali Decals even buys me a burrito (Chipotle, yeah!). It doesn’t get any better!”

Mitch giving thanks for Chipotle..

One of our newest team members, Jeni, didn’t forget to mention her good health, which is something we should all be thankful for!

I’d like to add in a few things of my own..  First of all, I can’t help but mention that I LOVE North Florida weather, and if you’ve ever read my posts, you’re probably sick of hearing me brag about it, but seriously, it’s beautiful up here! It’s a “Southern” state, yes. But, it still gets colder here, but without the snow!  Jacksonville, FL has four wonderfully mild seasons, and it sure beats the 80% humidity of South Florida, where Dave and I are originally from, and the 4 months of freezing cold temps up in Asheville, NC, where we endured two winters. No, thank you!  After several years of living in different places, we are so happy to have relocated here, and are even more excited that we’ve planted our roots here with Dali Studios, as well as with our home.

Anyway, and most importantly, I am also thankful for my incredible, supportive family which includes Dave (my other half, and the other half of Dali Decals!), my mom, and my sisters.   Without their support, motivation, and love, we wouldn’t be where we are today. :)

Dali Decals at the Jax Home and Patio Show 5

Yes, it’s true. Blank walls are stupid.

This past weekend, Dali Decals showed everyone at the Jacksonville Home and Patio Show why. If you came by to see us, thank you. If you weren’t able to make it, see the pictures below.

We had a blast!

The Jacksonville Home and Patio Show was awesome! At the Dali Wall Decals booth, we had samples of everything: Modern Mosaics, Custom Printed Canvas, Cut Wall Decals and Custom Printed Wall Decals! We had a ton of stuff, especially FUN!

We just wanted to take the time to say thanks to everyone that came by. To everyone that we met there, it was a pleasure. It was great to catch up with some of our local fans and customers as well as make new connections and meet new people.

Things got pretty crazy for Dali Wall Decals, as usual. But in the end, we made it fun for everyone, and we got to relax a bit too!

For everyone that submitted pictures for the customer gallery at our booth, we want to give you a special thanks!

So if you were one of the awesome customers that submitted a picture for our home & patio gallery, be on the look out. You will be receiving something special in your emails shortly!!

:o WooooHooooo!!

Halloween with Dali Wall Decals 9

If you’ve been an active member of the Dali Decals Back Lot, then it’s likely that you’ve gotten to know some of the Dali Decals team members. Now it’s time for you to learn a little more about Dali’s Decals.

In honor of Halloween approaching in the coming weeks, we want to introduce you to the Halloween Themed Dali Decals that will give you an affordable and convenient way to decorate your space in October.

Why decorate with Halloween themed wall decals?

#1. Affordability. Some are as low as $10!

#2. Convenience. Quick, easy, no mess installation.

#3. Removable. Peel them right off when Halloween is over, and start decorating for the next holiday!

$10 Halloween Themed Dali Wall Decals

Mini Jack-o-lanterns Wall Decals are a Halloween must, especially when they are only $10!

The Jack-o-lantern was named after the phenomenon of strange light flickering over peat bogs, called ignis fatuus
which roughly translates in Medieval Latin as foolish fire. Bet you didn’t know that, did ya?

So if your boss needs you to decorate the office for the upcoming Halloween work party, don’t get yourself ignus fatuused (foolishly fired). Get a set of these Mini Jack-o-lanterns Wall Decals!

Mini Pumpkins Wall Decals are a perfect traditional Halloween accent.

Did you know that the turnip was traditionally used to celebrate Halloween in Scotland and Ireland before the pumpkin? The pumpkin wasn’t used to celebrate Halloween until North American immigrants discovered that the native pumpkin was easier to carve, much more readily available, and considerably larger than the turnip.

Get with the times, and get a set of these awesome $10 Mini Pumpkin Wall Decals!

Mini Ghosts Wall Decals are only ten bucks! Need we say more?

Still need some convincing? Just look at em’! The Mini Ghosts Wall Decals are scary yet inviting, mysterious but open, rough and tough with the hint of a soft side akin to the likes of Johnny Depp or the great Leonardo DeCaprio.

But srsly though, you can’t go wrong with the Mini Ghosts Wall Decals.

Mini Skulls Wall Decals come as a set of 10.

The normal adult skull is made up of 22 bones and carries an average weight of 4.5 kg. Aside from that, there’s not much else to say about skulls, except that Mini Skull Wall Decals are awesome!

Don’t be a bone head, get yourself some $10 Mini Skull Wall Decals for Halloween this year!

See all of the Halloween Themed Dali Wall Decals

What does Halloween mean to Dali Decals?

Robert: “Candy corn. And oh yeah, trying not to run over my neighbors’ kids.”

Caryn: “Ghosts and goblins. You know, the usual.”

Steve: “Uhhhhh…. ghosts??”

Jenn: “Trick or treating with my son, and decorating the garage.”

Featured Customer: Jen Davidson 6

If you follow olympic bobsledding, then you may have heard of the Dali Decals Featured Customer of October, Jen Davidson.

Jen’s an outdoors kind of girl, a snowboarder, a mountain biker, a blogger and a former Olympic bobsledder!

She made her first order back in March, then her second in May. After she posted some awesome pictures, we knew she had to be a Dali Decals featured customer!

So Jen, where are you originally from?
I grew up in Idaho Falls, Idaho.

You won two silver medals in the two-woman event at the FIBT World Championships (2000 and 2001). Describe what is was like to win and compete at such a level.
It’s hard to put into words what it feels like to put on a red, white and blue uniform emblazoned with USA and represent your country. Some of my proudest moments were standing atop the podium watching the flag wave while the National Anthem played. Competing at that level requires a lot of hard work, but every moment was worth it. I had some amazing experiences, and I even got to meet President Bush in the White House.

How did you get involved in bobsledding?
I knew I wanted to become an Olympian since I was 5 years old. After a successful collegiate career as a sprinter/hurdler, I realized I was going to need to learn a winter sport when my hometown of Salt Lake City was awarded the 2002 Games. I studied all the events as they were televised during the 1998 Nagano Olympics and decided that bobsled most suited my natural skills and abilities. I showed up to a tryout on a 100 degree day in July, passed the qualification tests, and got invited to training camp. I made the National Team in my first season and never looked back.

Are there any other sports or physical activities you enjoy?
I LOVE to play outside: snowboarding, mountain biking, hiking, yardwork.

What’s your favorite TV show? I can’t say that I have a favorite show, but I do love to watch football.

What do you like to do in your free time? When I’m not playing outside, I’m a writer-photographer-movie editor- wannabe. I’m actually a geek trapped in an athlete’s body, and I like to dork out on the computer. You can follow my crazy bedazzling adventures at www.howimountain.me

Any children, brothers/sisters? No kids of my own, but I do have 3 beautiful nieces from my one and only sister.

How did you find out about Dali Decals? I scored a Groupon a few months back! I liked the idea of decals right away. I’d never heard of Dali Decals before, but now I’m an ADDICT!

“Sounds like DDOD to me.”

*If any of you are suffering, please visit Dr. Tex’s DDOD page to get help.

What do people say when they see your decals on your walls? Guests absolutely love the Cherry Blossom Tree. Some have even asked if I painted it.

Why did you choose to order the Cherry Blossom Tree? The Cherry Blossom Tree just spoke to me from the moment I first saw it. I had this big blank wall that I viewed as a canvas, and I couldn’t quite figure out what I wanted to do with it. The tree was a good way to bring my love of the outdoors inside.

Any other decals?
I have some square decals in the guest room that look great with the comforter.
(see below)

What’s your favorite thing about your decals? I bedazzle and customize everything I own – from my vehicle, to my mountain bike, and now my walls. I’ll find a way to take something ordinary and sass it up, so I love that my decals reflect my personality and changed my boring space to something a lot more fun!

What is your favorite thing about Dali Decals? I love that Dali Decals are an affordable way to give a room a unique and personalized makeover. I also really appreciate the great customer service and friendly attitude of both the Dali Decals staff and other Dali Decals customers on the Back Lot.

What do you plan on ordering next? I’ve got my eye on the Birch Tree trunks for my bedroom. And I want a giant “J” initial in my bathroom.

One last question, if you hit the lottery, what would you do with the winnings?
hmmm… buy more Dali Decals?!
Good answer!

If you want to get to know her a little better, send Jen a friend request or visit her blog at howimountain.com.

Final Dali Decals W.W.M.D? Question! 3

Mitch eating cake at his Beiber Fever themed 26th birthday party

If you read Mitch’s feature, you’ll find that he’s a pretty unique and interesting guy, one of the most intriguing figures at Dali Decals.

For starters, he has a very odd obsession with Justin Bieber that I have yet to figure out. Just trying to explain it gives me an uneasy feeling at the pit of my stomach which is usually followed by a craving for mint chocolate chip ice cream. Weird, I know. The fact that I get odd ice cream cravings from thinking about a fellow co-worker’s obsession with a teen pop star only adds to the mystery of Mitch.

Almost paradoxically to his obsession with Mr. Bieber, Mitch has a gigantic Dali Decals Printed Wall Decal of paisley skulls in his office that gives those who see it the idea that Mitch might actually be some roughneck biker type.

Is this a contradiction or an enigmatic and endearing quality? I guess nobody really knows, but we all love this guy.

Either way, whether out of love or genuine curiosity, Mitch has inspired the Dali Decals staff to form some interesting opinions. Fellow Dali Decals employees have described him as goofy, inventive, competent, girly, and someone actually said fatherly, which only adds to the enigma that is Mitch “Bieber Fan” Kelly.

With all this said, what would a mysterious guy like Mitch Kelly do?

The Swordfish Wall Decal or the Football Players Wall Decal? You may be able to find some clues in Mitch’s feature!

Submit the right answer below by 10 a.m. EDT on Oct. 3rd and we’ll send you 150 Back Lot points!

Dali Wall Decals Terminology 2

It’s Monday again! Time to get up, get dressed, and start the week. With school back in, why not start the week off with a little education from Dali Decals?

Have you ever bought a product that came with literature that seemed to be written backwards in some foreign language?

We at Dali Decals understand that specific wall decal terminology can sometimes be misunderstood, so just in case you were wondering what some of this stuff actually means, check out the terminology list below.

(Please feel free to add to the terminology list in the Discussions or as a comment below.)

1. Custom Printed Decals. Custom Printed Wall Decals are photos or images that are printed and made into a wall decal. Custom prints are just like regular wall decals only they aren’t cut out of a sheet. With our Custom Prints, almost any picture or image you have can be transformed into a wall decal, srsly. Want your favorite picture of your pet iguana, Louie the Lizard, to be custom printed? No sweat, call us. 877.769.3254.

2. Adhesive. This is the sticky stuff on the back of the decals that keep them stuck to the surface. This is kind of an easy one, but don’t feel bad if you didn’t know it. Joe just found out too. If you have questions concerning whether or not the adhesive will work on where you want your wall decals applied, we suggest you try some sample wall decals.

3. Coupon vs. Certificate. When you go to use a coupon or gift certificate code at checkout, remember that there are separate places to enter these two different kinds of codes. Coupon codes go where it says “coupon code” and the gift certificate goes further down the page where it says “gift certificate.”

4. Modern Mosaics. The Modern Mosaics are wall decals that look like tile. A mosaic is a bunch of small pieces put together to make one big piece. The Modern Mosaic wall decals are a bunch of small designs put together on one wall decal to look like one big design, just like tile.
Learn more about Modern Mosaics here.

5. Custom Canvas Printing. We make custom canvas prints in addition to wall decals. They’re not like decals; they don’t stick to your walls. They are custom prints on canvas, and they get hung up on the wall just like a painting or framed family photo. Check out this awesome product review of our Custom Canvas Printing.

6. Gloss vs. Matte. When you go to choose your colors for your wall decal, you’ll see that there are two standard color options for most of our colors: either gloss or matte.

The gloss option will be shiny and metallic looking. The matte option will look flat and not shiny.

It’s kind of like a plain piece of paper (matte) vs. that same piece of paper if it were laminated (gloss).

7. Re-positionable Fabric. Opposed to permanent or removable vinyl, our re-positionable fabric is a different material with an adhesive that can be removed and re-positioned. Custom Prints are available in this material. The re-positionable fabric is comparable to a thin polyester backed by a self-adhesive.

8. Sepia. Remember black and white televisions? Sepia’s just like “black & white” only it’s lighter color shades like brown and tan instead of shades of black and white. You can have your Custom Printed Canvas printed in a sepia tone.

9. Specialty Colors. We offer two kinds of Specialty Colors: Silver Metallic and Etched Glass. The names kind of speak for themselves, but Silver Metallic is silver with a metallic quality, and Etched Glass simulates the look of actual etched glass. The Etched Glass option is available for a charge of 50% of your order subtotal, and Silver Metallic is available for 15% of the order subtotal.

10. Rush Processing. Standard processing means that your order takes 3-7 business days (excluding the weekends) to be shipped out from the time you made your order. Rush processing is when your order is guaranteed to get shipped out 1-2 business days from the time you made the purchase. The charge for rush processing is 15% of your order subtotal.

Modern Mosaics or Cherry Blossom Tree? Modern Mosaics! 6

(CLOSED) Feel free to vote, but you can no longer earn points for this one :(

Mitch just moved into a new apartment. His walls are boring and bare, and he has nothing but Justin Bieber posters and a collection of paper toys with which to decorate.

He had been contemplating what to put on his walls for some time when it finally hit him, “I work for Dali Decals. Wall decoration is our specialty.” Duh, Mitch! So what will it be?

The “What Would Mitch Do?” question of the week: Modern Mosaics for the kitchen or a Cherry Blossom Tree for the living room? Get this one right and you get 100 points! You have until 10 a.m. EDT on Sept. 26th to submit your answer.

Modern Mosaics or a Cherry Blossom Tree?

  • Modern Mosaics for the kitchen (74%, 26 Votes)
  • Cherry Blossom Tree for the living room (17%, 6 Votes)
  • Etched Glass for the glass door (9%, 3 Votes)

Total Voters: 35

What is Etched Glass?

Etched Glass is one of our specialty colors. It looks just like real etched glass, and it is perfect for windows, glass doors, bathrooms, or anywhere you would like etched glass! We also have Silver Metallic!

Cherry Blossom Tree or Modern Mosaics? Tell us what you would do.

W.W.M.D? Boxers! 8

We want to start off by saying thanks to everyone for participating in the W.W.M.D? question of the week. You all make Mitch feel very special :)

For those of you that submitted answers, I’ve copied and pasted my chat conversation with Mitch from this morning below.

Me: Mitch, I have to announce the correct answer to last week’s W.W.M.D? question. Which is it, boxers or briefs?

Mitch: Boxers.

Me: No way! Not commando?

Mitch: Nah, I need some control down there you know?

Me: No doubt.

Mitch: Fo sho.

So what’s the answer? BOXERS! If you voted for boxers by 10 a.m. on Sept. 19th, check your Back Lot account, and you’ll see that you have an extra 250 points! For everyone that voted for briefs or commando, don’t feel bad. That’s what most of us here at Dali Decals voted for as well. And hey, you’ll get another crack at a new W.W.M.D? this Wednesday, so stay tuned!

In the meantime, if you haven’t already, join our Subliminal Scavenger Message Hunt and look for the hidden messages throughout The Back Lot! You can earn up to 1350 points if you find all of the messages!
